Teva's Bespoke Business Intelligence Dashboard

Teva Pharmaceuticals, a global leader in generic and specialty medicines, faced challenges in managing and analysing vast streams of operational and sales data. Existing SaaS tools like Tableau and Power BI fell short of meeting the specific needs of regional CEOs, sales directors, and analysts. To address this, Teva developed a custom dashboard system designed for real-time “what-if” analysis and seamless data integration. This project focused on creating a modular, intuitive, and user-centred interface that enabled data-driven decision-making across laptops and tablets.

The Business Problem to Solve / Design Objectives

Teva’s expansive global operations generated immense data, but existing tools were inadequate for the specific needs of key decision-makers. The primary goal was to design a bespoke dashboard that:

  • Enabled real-time “what-if” analysis for operational and sales data.
  • Offered a modular system for tailored data visualisation.
  • Delivered a seamless experience across laptop and tablet devices to support mobile workflows.
This solution aimed to empower Teva’s stakeholders with actionable insights and an efficient decision-making process.

Understanding User Needs To Shape Design

The system was designed to serve three key User groups: regional executives like CEOs, sales team leads, and analysts. User interviews and workshops identified their distinct needs, such as tracking sales performance, analysing regional trends, and executing inventory strategies. These insights informed the creation of personas and workflows tailored to each group’s unique goals.

Refining Functionality Through Iterative Design

Starting with lo-fi wireframes, the team mapped out required modules and data visualisations to address specific User tasks. These wireframes evolved into mid-fi screens and clickable prototypes, enabling rapid testing with real Users. Feedback gathered during testing helped refine interaction flows and resolve micro-interaction challenges, ensuring an intuitive experience.

Building Custom Dashboards For Diverse Needs

The system was built around a modular design, allowing Users to create custom dashboards by combining reusable data visualisation components. Modules such as “Top Performers” highlighted key trends, while “What-If Analysis” enabled scenario planning without disrupting the current screen context. This flexibility ensured that Users could adapt the dashboard to their specific workflows.

Designing For Mobility And Collaboration

The dashboards were optimised for laptops and tablets, supporting mobile workflows. A typical scenario involved using a tablet, mirrored to an external monitor for group discussions, while teammates contributed live updates. The responsive design ensured seamless usability, regardless of device or screen size, enhancing collaboration across teams.

Deliverables

  • Validated User personas for regional executives, sales leads, and analysts, aligned with their goals and workflows
  • Optimised User flows and wireframes for streamlined data navigation and real-time “what-if” analysis
  • Mid-fi prototypes tested with Users to refine interaction design and resolve issues
  • Modular design system with reusable data visualisation components for consistency
  • Accessibility compliance meeting WCAG 2.2, with focus indicators and colour contrasts for inclusivity
  • Strategic insights report outlining User needs and system opportunities.
  • UX roadmap aligned with Teva’s business goals, focused on mobile-first dashboards
  • Usability testing outcomes from workshops and interviews to ensure real-world usability.
  • Recommendations for modular dashboards to adapt to User needs and enable collaboration.

Typical Challenges Businesses Owners have with their SaaS products

Poor Onboarding: Are you losing customers at the very first step due to poor onboarding?

Consider personalising onboarding, showcasing key features, and guiding Users gently through their first workflow.

Confusing Navigation: Is your product’s navigation leaving Users frustrated or lost?

You might benefit from organising features logically, grouping items intuitively, and reviewing your navigation hierarchy regularly.

Un-intuitive Workflows: Are complex workflows making it hard for Users to get things done?

It could help to redesign workflows with step-by-step flows, progress indicators, and thoughtful guidance.

Are these challenges holding your business back? Let’s discuss how a tailored design solution can elevate your digital presence!
